Trichloroethylene (C2HCl3)
Trichloroethylene (C2HCl3) is a colorless, volatile liquid with a sweet odor, commonly used as a solvent for degreasing metals, and in adhesives, paints, and varnishes.
Trichloroethylene effects health:
Inhalation of trichloroethylene can cause dizziness, headaches, and nausea, with prolonged exposure leading to liver and kidney damage. Long-term exposure has been associated with an increased risk of cancer, particularly kidney and liver cancers, and it is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the IARC. Skin contact can irritate, and high levels of exposure may lead to central nervous system depression. Chronic exposure may also result in neurological effects, including cognitive impairments. Due to its toxicity, strict safety measures are required when handling trichloroethylene.
