Diborane (B2H6)
Diborane (B2H6) – also known as boroethane or boron hydride – is widely used in the chemical industry to produce rocket fuel in combination with fluorine. This very reactive gas is also used in the electronics and photovoltaic industries as a semiconductor doping agent. Diborane is used as well during rubber curing to make it more elastic.
Diborane effects on health
Diborane (B2H6) is a colorless gas with a sweetish to foul smell. This gas is very toxic by inhalation (R26) and its time-weighted average value for 8 hours is set at 0.1 ppm. Extremely flammable (R12) with explosive limits between 0.8 and 88% volume, it can ignite spontaneously at ambient temperature in the presence of humidity.
