Acrylonitrile (C3H3N)
Acrylonitrile has the chemical formula C3H3N. It is a colourless to pale yellow liquid with a sharp, onion-like odour, widely used as a monomer in the production of acrylic fibres, plastics, and synthetic rubber.
Acrylonitrile effects on health:
Acrylonitrile is highly toxic and can be absorbed via inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Acute exposure may cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract, along with symptoms like headache, nausea, and dizziness. Prolonged or repeated exposure is associated with an increased risk of cancer, neurological effects, and damage to the liver and kidneys. It is classified as a Group 2B probable human carcinogen by the IARC.
